Abstract:
Studies on youth civic engagement in Hong Kong were reviewed. Findings indicated that young people in Hong
Kong have high motivation to participate in civic activities. Nevertheless, the mobilization process and patterns of participation of young people are different from their preceding generations partly because of the advancement of technology and communication technology (ICT). They identify less with the conventional political groups and parties, ideologically and socially. Nevertheless, studies also indicate that civic engagement is able to enhance their altruism and identification with the community. Implications of existing research studies are discussed and a new agenda for future research is proposed.
