The idea of techno-philosophy and philosophy-aided technology, with social networking as an example

Abstract

The term “techno-philosophy” could be understood in two different ways, as either technology-aided philosophy or philosophy-aided technology. In this chapter, the latter concept, philosophy-aided technology, is clarified with an example, social networking, for a brief analysis. We are concerned with the meaning of technology (mainly information technology) for the individual, society, and culture and the impact of technology on them. How do we understand the human condition in the age of technology? How should we design new technologies that promote the best values and philosophical ideas for the well-being of mankind?
