This paper presents our experience in prototyping a collaborative 3D modeling platform with the context and purpose of keychain DIY. A comprehensive keychain customization and trading system is therefore developed using latest web and cloud technologies. Under a web interface, a group of users with diversified skills in 3D modeling can interactively design a single 3D content and share their idea more efficiently. By implementing simple version control of 3D models during editing, collaborated parties can rollback or undo certain contributions or modifications based on consensus. A preliminary user study of our proposed collaborative platform and keychain DIY system is carried out to collect constructive opinions and reveals encouraging results. The trial users are generally satisfied with our system performance and find that the web-based 3D collaborative editing is useful in providing better DIY experiences.en_US
