When the effective span of dome structures is increased, the magnitude of deformation under loads becomes prohibitive for practical applications. Based on research on deformation control at the University of Hong Kong and verification at Southern Methodist University however, significant reduction in deformation was attained even on large span dome structures by installing a few ties at strategic locations.-
