dc.description.abstractCharacterised by a progressive loss of muscle mass as well as fat, cachexia is a severely debilitating and life-threatening syndrome accounting for approximately 20 per cent of cancer deaths. Cachexia also has a psychological impact on patients. Dr Graeme D Smith and Claire Davidson discuss strategies to increase appetite and reverse the degree of body wasting are paramount interventions in cachectic patients.en_US
